Parks and recreation

Medway CoPhoto of Gillingham parkuncil manages and develops parks, recreation grounds and other green spaces and provides opportunities for everyone to access them.

It provides the following services to all local citizens and visitors to Medway:

  • attractive and accessible green spaces;
  • opportunities to learn about the environment through events for both adults and children, interpretation and education programmes;
  • opportunities to participate in conserving and improving the environment;
  • opportunities to participate in decision-making about the management and development of green spaces;
  • an effective tree management and advisory service;
  • a range of good quality built and planted facilities to cater for everyone and especially facilities that give young people opportunities for informal, social recreation;
  • an allotment service.

    The Vines, Rochester, has received a Green Flag Award (www.greenflagaward.org.uk/), the national standard for quality parks and green spaces. Winners are judged to be welcoming and well maintained, with the support and involvement of the local community.
