Parks and gardens

The parks open at 8.30am and close around dusk.

Chatham

  • Chestnut Avenue, Walderslade.
    The entrance is opposite Repton Way and from the footpath on Mafeking Road.
  • Princes Avenue, Walderslade.
  • Riverside Gardens, Dock Road, Chatham.
  • The Paddock, Chatham Town Centre.
  • Town Hall Gardens, Rope Walk.
    The entrances are on Whiffens Avenue and Rope Walk.
  • Victoria Gardens, Fort Pitt Hill.
  • Waghorn Memorial, Railway Street.

 

Rochester

  • Castle Gardens
    Access is from Bakers Walk and Castle Hill.
  • The Esplanade
    The esplanade runs beside the river, upriver from Rochester Bridge.
  • Churchfields
    The esplanade is opposite Hathaway Court.
  • Copperfield Road and Breton Road
    Access is from Copperfield Road or the footpath on Marley Way.
  • Fort Clarence
    It is located on Borstal Road, opposite Gun Tower Mews.
  • Fort Pitt Gardens
    It is between Fort Pitt Hill and New Road, with entrances on Fort Pitt Hill.
  • Friston Way
  • Shaws Pond
  • The Vines Gardens
    The entrances are on Crow Lane, Vines Lane and The Precinct.

 

Gillingham

  • Balmoral Gardens, Balmoral Road
    Access is from Green Street (over the railway footbridge) or from a footpath on Balmoral Road.
  • Chesham Park
    The park is between Chesham Drive and Ploughman's Way, Rainham.
  • Cozenton Park, Bloors Lane, Rainham
    The entrances are on Bloors Lane, next to Splashes Leisure Centre; from the library on Birling Avenue; from the footpath on High Elms. The site includes Cozenton nursery, which has demonstration gardens and is the venue for Medway’s annual garden festival, in addition to producing all the bedding and decorative plants for the council.
  • Ellison Way, Ellison Way, Rainham.
  • Fairview Avenue, Fairview Avenue, Wigmore.
  • Gillingham Park
    The entrances are on Canterbury Street, Park Avenue and Oxford Road. Medway Council and Groundwork Kent and Medway are currently working on a Stage 1 Heritage Lottery Fund Parks for People Programme application for Gillingham Park. The application was submitted at the end of September 2008. Download a draft of the master plan (pdf 470KB) for the future of the site. To use this file, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader.   • Great Lines, Brompton
    Access is from York Avenue, Marlborough Road, King's Bastion and Sally Port Gardens.
  • Parish Churchyard and Grange Road, Gillingham.
  • Parkwood Green, Deanwood Drive, Parkwood.
  • Peverel Green, Long Catlis Road, Parkwood
    The green is between Plomley Close and Chipstead Road with access via footpaths on Long Catlis Road, Chipstead Road, Plomley Close, Nares Road and Collet Walk.
  • Platters Park
    Access via footpaths from The Platters and The Mailyns, Rainham.
  • Sovereign Boulevard, along the A2 from Gillingham to Rainham.
  • St Mark's Church, junction of Canterbury Street and High Street.
  • St Mary's Road, Gillingham.
  • Swan Gardens, Wood Street, Brompton.
  • Tyler Drive, Parkwood.
  • Vinalls Park, Broadway, Twydall.
    The park is enclosed by Geneva Avenue and Locarno Avenue.
  • Wigmore Park, Wigmore Road, Wigmore.
    Access is via footpaths from Wigmore Road, Fairview Avenue and Bredhurst Road.

 

Strood and the rural areas

  • Brookmead Road,  Brookmead Road, Cliffe Woods.
  • Broomhill
    Access is via Farm Hill Avenue; a long footpath from Pepys Way;  a footpath from Brompton Lane; a footpath from Lychfield Drive; and a footpath from Rosemount Court.
  • Church Green, Frindsbury.
  • Cliffe Woods, Merryboys Road, Cliffe Woods. Entrance on Merryboys Road.
  • Ferry Meadows, Howlsmere Close, Halling.
  • Gravesend Road, Strood.
  • Laburnum Road
    Access is from Lilac Road, a footpath from Holly Road and several access points along Laburnum Road.
  • Northcote Road, Strood.
    Access is from Northcote Road, Woodstock Road and Downside.
  • Sycamore Road, Sycamore Road, Strood.
  • Temple Manor, Knight Road.
  • Temple Marsh, Knight Road.
  • Upnor Castle, High Street, Upnor.
  • Woodside Green, Woodside Green, Cliffe Woods.
    Access is from View Road and Parkside.
