"In 2002 a national quality accreditation scheme was introduced by Sport England to raise the standards of clubs with junior sections. Clubmark clubs operate to a set of consistent standards and clearly established guidelines, making it safer and more enjoyable for children to enjoy organised sport.

"Overall, Clubmark sports clubs will provide a safe, effective and child friendly sporting environment for children to learn, take part and compete within. Clubs that achieve accreditation have high quality standards in; the playing programme; safeguarding and protecting children and young people; knowing your club and its community; and club management.

"Medway Council's 2012 and Sports Development Team actively support the recognition and achievement of Clubmark. Medway can now boast 30 sports clubs, placing Medway as the highest achievers in the south-east. Each accredited club carries the Clubmark logo and is invited to join the Medway Community Sports Network.

"The network has been set up to actively promote the Clubmark philosophy and to assist in the development of sport in Medway where appropriate. The group are actively working towards raising the profile and getting the message out to parents, schools and youth groups that seeking out accredited clubs ensures children will have the best start and experiences in sport."

Clubmark

The scheme accredits and recognises clubs that are committed to providing a safe, effective and child-friendly environment for children and young people.

Only clubs that are affiliated to a Sport England-recognised national governing body can gain Clubmark accreditation. Currently 30 governing bodies are licensed to award Clubmark.

In Medway, 30 clubs have achieved the Sport England Clubmark and have the accreditation of their national governing body:

Medway has a Clubmark Charter (pdf 126KB) that outlines the benefits that local Clubmark clubs will enjoy. These includes priority funding and marketing support, plus help with the hire of meeting rooms.
