Sports ambassadors and volunteering

Medway Council recognises that sports volunteers are the life-blood of British sport and are signing up Medway Sports Ambassadors to help achieve its ambition of delivering high quality sport to all.

Local sports volunteers play a vital role in the delivery, organisation and administration of voluntary sports clubs, district leagues, county governing bodies of sport and regional and national sports governing bodies.

They are also vital to running successful sporting events, whether at local, county, regional, national or international level.

More than 100 local volunteers helped deliver Medway's first ever global sporting event, the Modern Pentathlon World Cup in April 2010.

Many of them returned for the 2011 Modern Pentathlon European Championships.

These ambassadors and others will also play a vital role in delivering our signature local events and national events being staged in Medway including the Medway Mile, British Transplant GamesNational England Basketball Playoff Finals and the Medway Festival of Sport.

If you would like to volunteer and sign up to be a Sports Ambassador for any event currently listed or any in the pipeline, please email sportsdevteam@medway.gov.uk to register your interest.

Sport Makers

Sports Makers LogoSport Makers is a national programme which aims to recruit people to help organise and support sport for those aged 16 and older. They are looking to recruit 40,000 people from across the country and everyone has a chance to get involved.

Whether it's planning the route, finding the pitch or encouraging people to take part, sport doesn't just happen. Coaches and volunteers work tirelessly to enable others to take part, and Sport Makers wants to find more people to help.

Workshop

There will be Sport Makers workshops throughout the UK. Attendees receive a free Adidas polo shirt and shoe bag. If you accept the challenge and complete 10 hours of sport-making activity after the workshop, you could secure tickets to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Sign up now by selecting Kent or entering your postcode.
