Medway Community Games logoThe Medway Community Games is a programme of diverse and exciting sporting activities for adults and young people in Medway.

The Games features a series of signature events to promote active lifestyles and sport, organised or supported by Medway Council in partnership with local sports clubs, organisation and venues, plus national governing bodies of sport.

Medway is blessed with excellent sports clubs and organisations that create opportunities for thousands of people to enjoy sport and physical activity. The aim of the Games series is to provide opportunities for individuals, groups, organisations and businesses with a chance to try new sports and enjoy some friendly, healthy competition.

Medway Mile 2012 - Celebrating the start of the London 2012 Games

Smokefree logoThis year's spectacular event will take place during the evening of Friday, 27 July in Rochester Castle Gardens.

Thousands of people are expected to once again take part in the children's, adult and mass family race around Rochester.

The Castle Gardens will then be transformed into an official London 2012 Community Live Site, Medway Mile logocomplete with a big screen for everyone to watch the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Games and to celebrate together the arrival of the Games in London in our own carnival atmosphere.

Medway Mile timetable

  • 5pm: Medway Mile opening ceremony
  • 5.30pm: Children's races
  • 6.30pm: Official Mascot race
  • 6.45pm: Competitive race, adults (16+)
  • 7.10pm: Mass participation warm up with British Military Fitness
  • 7.30pm: Medway Mile 2012
