The way we were

The Way We Were - Competition

Do you have any old (pre 1980) photos of Strood lying around? We'd love you to share them with us.

It’s amazing how much an area can change, and sometimes you don’t notice. We’re hoping that people who live and work in Strood, or whose families are from the area, will have old photographs they could share that will help show how the area has developed over the decades. And you could win a family ticket to Rochester Castle worth £16.80.

We'd really like to see your vintage images of Strood, the buildings, streets, leisure and work places. Have a look now in your old photo albums, the pile of 'things' that need sorting out, or behind the clock! We are looking for any pictures of the people and places that make Strood special, if you have any pictures that have stories behind them, or are significant to you, we'd love you to share them on our Facebook Event page.

All you have to do to enter the competition is post a picture and a short description to our Facebook Event page before the closing date of Friday, 30 June 2017, and you could be in with a chance of winning. The prize is a family ticket to Rochester Castle, (which at approximately 900 years old, definitely counts as old!).

Even if you don’t have any pictures, why not take a look at our event page and see if any pictures stir some of your own memories.

How to enter

The winning entry will be the image that the judges consider shows a long-lost or unique vintage view of Strood. For example, long gone buildings and industries, different pubs or original shops on the High Street, or an area before anything had been built.

  • Images must be pre-1980
  • Entries can only be submitted by posting a valid image to our Facebook page
  • The closing date for entries is 30 June 2017
  • Prize is as stated – no cash alternative
