The lunch reception marked the University of Kent’s commitment to Medway’s future sporting ambitions.
Jeff Brown, Head of Operations at the University of Kent at Medway, said: “As a university, we are committed to developing sporting excellence through the range of degree courses we offer. I am delighted to be able to welcome two such great sports stars to the campus and to be part of Medway: 2012 Days to the Olympics.”
During the event, Danny Crates agreed to be a patron for Medway’s inaugural Disability Youth Games. The games, due to be staged in June, will take place at Deangate Ridge. They will be made up of competitions in cricket, football, athletics, archery and boccia and will be open to pupils in Years 6 and 7 from special schools and special units in Medway.
A skiing event will also be part of the Games and will be held separately at the Capstone Ski Centre. All pupils taking part will receive free coaching in the run-up to the events.
