About a hundred young Medway athletes competed in the tournament, which was organised by Steve Waud, the manager of the Howard Table Tennis Centre. Steve said: "I am delighted to be supporting Medway's 2012 celebrations and this is an excellent opportunity to show the budding talent Medway has in the sport of table tennis."

The Howard Table Tennis Centre was built in 2005 with the help of a donation from Sport England. The centre is ranked among one of the top 10 purpose-built facilities in the country and is part of Medway’s bid to host a pre-Games training camp.

The pupils taking part received a visit from one of the day's special guests, Steve Backley.
