Sporting superstars Steve Backley and Danny Crates have given a massive boost to Medway's ambitions for 2012 by taking up the role of Medway International Sporting Ambassadors. The two world-class athletes were unveiled on Friday, 27 July as part of a day of events to mark five years until the start of the 2012 Olympics Games. Together, they will promote Medway's 2012 ambitions and help establish Medway on the sporting map. |
Paralympic and world 800m champion Danny said: "Having been to two Paralympic Games I know the positive impact they have on the locality and I am proud to support Medway as it strives to bring the benefits of 2012 to the community."
Medway Council's Portfolio Holders for Community Services, Cllr Howard Doe said: "It is a great coup that two of the greatest names in British Olympic history believe in Medway 2012.
"The fact they have given their support and prestigious names to the project is of huge benefit to us as we encourage the world's great sporting nations to use Medway as a training base at the London 2012 Olympics.
