Seven Olympic and Paralympic sports were on the menu as Medway 2012 served up a day of sporting fun to mark five years until the start of the London Games. Sports-mad youngsters were able to try athletics, hockey, trampolining, badminton, table tennis, judo and the disability sport goalball during an action packed day at the Black Lion Leisure Centre. |
Expert coaches from Jumpers Rebound Centre, Medway and Maidstone AC, Holcombe Hockey Club, Medway Badminton Association Centre, the Howard Table Tennis Centre, Rainham Judo Club and Goalball UK laid on the sessions through the day on Friday, 27 July.
There was also time for a lunchtime nutrition talk by Medway's public health team.
After an exhausting day, the children were each presented with a certificate by the deputy mayor of Medway, Cllr Nick Bowler, and three sporting legends - javelin thrower Steve Backley, Paralympic gold medallist and world record holder athlete Danny Crates and triple world boxing champion Duke McKenzie. Each youngster also received a souvenir T-shirt in one of the five Olympic ring colours.
