Gillingham Jumpers help GB to international victory

Two of Medway's elite athletes helped the GB team to victory in a multi-discipline trampolining international featuring some of the world's top gymansts.

Medway's Olympian Gary Smith, 26, was the second overall ranked competitor in the match against Canada, helping the men's team to the trampoline title in spite of a throat infection.

Tom Foreman, 16, was selected for the youth team that contested the double mini trampolining competition against teams from Germany and Canada and ranked seventh overall.

Jason Plowman, 21, was also reserve for the senior men's double mini-tramp event.

The event, held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, saw Great Britain win both the men's and women's trampolining titles and all of the tumbling titles. The senior British team won the men's double mini-tramp event whil the Canadian team won the women's title.

In the junior event between GB, Canada and Germany, the German team won the men's trampolining and Great Britain the women's event. The GB team were victorious in both the men's and women's tumbling events while Canada won both of the double mini-tram titles.

Gary said: "I think it was the best routines I have completed all season. Hopefully I will have a good trials next month and and then I can concentrate on the World Championships."

Gary, Tom and Jason all compete for Gillingham Jumpers and train at the Jumpers Rebound Centre in Gillingham and are members of the Medway 2012 Elite Athlete Support Programme.

They are now preparing for the final two rounds of the World Championship trials, which take place on 8/9 and 14/15 September. All are vying for selection for the GB team to compete against the rest of the world in Quebec in November.
