Hockey tournament kicks off Mini Youth Games for 2007/2008

More than 200 Medway school children took to the field to compete in the first Mini Youth Games (MYG) tournament of the year.

The 2007/2008 competition launched into action with a hockey tournament at Holcombe Hockey Club featuring 20 schools.

Every team played 16 matches through the day, with Hempstead Junior School eventually being crowned the winners. They were closely followed by Miers Court Primary School and Allhallows Primary School, which also took the best Small School Award for the top-performing school with fewer than 40 pupils in Year 6.

The Fair Play Award, presented at every Mini Youth Games event to promote friendly, positive competition, went to Hoo St Werburgh Primary School.

The presentations were made by the Deputy Mayor of Medway, Cllr Nick Bowler.

The Mini Youth Games are organised by the Medway Council sports development team and sponsored by the Medway Messenger.
