An England star helped inspire Medway's next generation of netball players. Courtney Cummins, who lives in Kent and is a member of the under 21 England squad, was the star attraction at the Mini Youth Games netball torunament. More than 250 children from 28 primary schools took part in the tournament held at the Rainham Netball Centre at Rainham School for Girls. After many close matches St Thomas of Canterbury were crowned overall winners and also the highest placed small school. Sherwin Knight came second and Horsted third. St James Primary School won the prestigious Fair Play Award. |
Medals for all participants and prizes for the winning schools were presented by Courtney and Deputy Mayor of Medway, Cllr Nick Bowler.

The day was made possible by the tremendous support from the numerous volunteer umpires, who gave up their time to help and support event. The tournament was played in the high five format, England Netball's new style of game designed to give nine to 11 year olds experience in netball before progressing to the full game. Teams are reduced from seven members to five and the game is made up of four shorter quarters. |
