Medway swimmer wins her first national gold medal

Sara Parfett, Medway's emerging swimming star, has won her first national gold medal.

The Hundred of Hoo School pupil was competing for South East Schools at the English Schools Swimming Association Championships in Manchester.

She was part of the South East schools victorious 4 x 50m freestyle relay team.

The Black Lion Swimming Club captain rounded off an impressive year by collecting the gold medal.

In the last 12 months Sara has competed in four events at the national championships, broken in to the top ten in the national rankings, won her first national gold medal, and taken 14 long-standing club records.

Sara has also recently learned that her performance in the 50m freestyle at the Robin Hood Open in Sheffield was fast enough to meet the qualifying standard for next year's national championships.

She has also recently received sponsorship from Parfetts Cash and Carry who have agreed to support her by helping with the cost of competing.

Sara is one of Medway's elite athletes and is supported by Medway's Elite Athlete Support Programme.
