Table tennis taken to the heart of the community

Shoppers got more than they bargained for at the Chatham Dockside Outlet Centre on Saturday.

Table tennis tables replaced the regular dining tables in the foodcourt so that three junior England players could show off their talents to the public.

They were joined by coaches from the Howard Table Tennis Club to promote this weekend's Medway Open Butterfly Table Tennis Grand Prix being held at the Black Lion Leisure Centre.

Passers-by of all ages took the opportunity to have a go on the robot practice machine, to receive some coaching and to learn more about local table tennis opportunities. Some even took on the challenge of playing against one of the young table tennis stars - Harry Lumb. 13, Ross Wilson, 12, and Katie, nine.

There will be another opportunity for the public to try their hand at table tennis on the eve of the Medway Open.

The tournament tables will be opened up for a drop-in public session between 7pm and 9pm on Friday, 30 November. Simply turn up in the main sports hall for free and receive some coaching from the ETTA and Medway Towns Table Tennis League.
