Four gold medals and a speeding ticket
|
Medway swimmer Sara Parfett is now too fast for all ASA level 2 swimming meets. Sara was competing in the Maidstone Open a local level 2 meet where she picked up four gold medals and a speeding warning when she swam faster than the level 2 standard in the 50m breaststroke. She was only entered in to her weaker events, the breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly, as her times over varying distances in the freestyle events already made her too fast to compete in those events at ASA level 2. Sara, who receives support through the Medway Elite Athlete Support Programme, must now look to compete entirely in level 1 meets which better suit her improved standard. This rules out many local meets and will enable her to concentrate solely on county and national galas. |

The progress Sara has made this year was rewarded when she was named as a young sportsperson of the year at the 2007 Medway Sports Awards.
