Work begins at Medway Park

Work to create Medway Park, Medway's regional centre of sporting excellence, is under way.

Work began on creating the martial arts centre on 10 December.

To mark the start of the development, Rainham Judo Club, which will be moving in to the new martial arts centre, held an introduction to judo session for pupils at Featherby Junior School.

Medway Park will give a more suitable home to the judo club, which has achieved Club Mark status, produced international judo players and was recently crowned Junior Club of the Year at the Medway Sports Awards.

Medway elite athletes James Lewis and Sam Malkinson both train at Rainham Judo Club and will benefit from the new facilities at Medway Park.

Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Services, Cllr Howard Doe, said: "This is an exciting phase in our project to develop the growth of sport in Medway.

We want to encourage every resident to participate in sport and Medway Park will raise their aspirations.”
