Sara to compete in senior national championships
Medway's talented young swimmer, Sara Parfett, has qualified for the Amateur Swimming Association Women's Open being held in Liverpool in July.
She will be swimming in the 50m butterfly against the country's best female swimmers after swimming a qualifying time of 29.97 seconds at the Burns Open, held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield, on 26 and 27 January.
At 16 years old, Sara will be one of the youngest competitors at the meeting. It is the first time she has qualified for an event in the full women's national championships, after previously competing in the youth championships.
Sara will again be competing in the youth championships this year, having already swum qualifying times for the 50m and 100m freestyle events, with another five months of qualifying events still to come.
While in Sheffield, Sara met up with her namesake sponsors, local firm Parfetts Cash and Carry (www.parfetts.co.uk), which has been supporting the Medway elite athlete since meeting her at a previous event in Sheffield.
Sara, who attends Hundred of Hoo School, is one of Medway's elite athletes and is supported by the Medway Elite Athlete Support Programme.
