Swimming club spots talent at Mini Youth Games swimming event
|
Coaches from the Black Lion Swimming Club were at the Mini Youth Games swimming event on 31 January 2008 to spot talented swimmers. The coaches were looking for those children with a natural ability for swimming that, with some expert coaching, can be nurtured. |
|
The event saw 300 children from 23 schoools take part in a day of pool-based competition.
A number of the day's top performers were able to find out about the club and the coaching it offers to Medway's promising young sportsmen and women.
The process will be repeated in future Mini Youth Games, as Medway Council fulfils its aim of establishing Medway as a centre of sporting excellence by 2012.
Mark Hays, Black Lion Swimming Club Senior Coach, was very pleased with the talent on display at the event.
"We, as coaches, got to view the talented swimmers in Medway schools. More importantly, we were able to interact with all the children taking part.
"We spoke to them after their races and complimented them on their efforts in the water. "There is a great, multi-skilled ability on show at the Mini Youth Games from beginners to regional standard swimmers.
"At present, three swimmers have already come along for a trial period with the club and several more are due to come along."
The day's competition was won by St Margaret's Junior School, Rainham. The fair play winner was Dane Court School.
The Mini Youth Games is a multi-sport competition for primary schools.
