Bumper turn out for footy festival
|
Kicks Soccer Centre was the venue for a record-breaking football tournament as 230 young players made the most of the new purpose-built pitches. More than 100 matches were played during the 2008 Girls Only event, with pupils from 22 schools taking part, helping make it the best-ever turn out. This was the fifth successive year the tournament has taken place, and the enthusiasm of players was matched by that of the organisers from Medway Council. |

Senior Sports Development Officer Tina Martin said afterwards: "The day was a fantastic success. It was great to see so many girls playing football and enjoying this friendly competition. The use of this new facility really enhanced the competition and allowed for really flowing and exciting games.”
Kent Football Association also helped organise the day, along with Meridian Girls Football Club. Students from The Howard School and Rainham Mark were volunteer referees on the day as part of the council’s young leaders programme.
Horsted Junior School was crowned champions after beating Featherby juniors in the final.
