Children from across Medway made history by playing their part in a day-long cricketing extravaganza.

400 pupils from 39 primary schools  enjoyed kwik cricket at Lordswood Cricket Club – the best-ever turn-out for a Medway Messenger Mini Youth Games event.

The Games consist of eight sporting tournaments for Year 6 and 7 pupils and are organised by Medway Council's Sports Development Team.

Sports Development Officer Tina Martin said: “It's fantastic to see so many schools wanting to participate in the programme. It’s proof there is a huge appetite for these events and we’re working with Medway’s School Sports Partnerships to expand our programme even further next year.”

The kwik cricket on Thursday, 12 June was the penultimate event of the Medway Messenger-sponsored 2007/2008 programme, which concluded with an athletics competition on 2 July at Deangate Ridge.
