HSBC Medway Business Games champion

HSBC has been crowned Medway Business Games champion for 2008.

The banking firm pipped Medway Council to the title after the final event of the 2008 competition.

The outcome of the inaugural Business Games was decided on the courts of the Rainham Netball Centre on Friday, 11 July 2008.

Six teams took part in the fifth and final event of the series and while banking rivals Lloyds TSB walked away with the netball trophy, HSBC’s performance was enough to secure the overall honours ahead of Medway Council and mhs homes.

HSBC's mixed team got off to a disappointing start against an impressive all-women Lloyds TSB team and ended up finishing in sixth place.

Medway Council – HSBS's nearest rivals going into the event – also struggled, losing two of its opening three matches against mhs homes, Medway Police and Royal Bank of Scotland. Its eventual fourth place was not enough to overturn HSBC’s lead in the Business Games table.

The tournament was played on a league basis and within the first two rounds of matches, Lloyds TSB and RBS quickly emerged as the teams to beat.

Lloyds TSB eventually took the title after an enthralling tournament decider against RBS. Both teams were unbeaten going into the final game of the afternoon but it was Lloyds that eventually emerged with a 15-7 victory.
