Holcombe Hockey Club

Holcombe is one of Britain’s largest hockey clubs.

It has a state-of-the-art, sand-based synthetic turf pitch that has achieved global accreditation from the International Hockey Federation. This pitch, laid in the summer of 2006, is the first of its kind outside Australia.

This is complemented by a second fully-equipped synthetic sand-dressed turf pitch. Both pitches are marked out for hockey only.

The club also has:

  • changing facilities with safe lockable storage;

  • disabled changing facilities;

  • a meeting and lecture room;

  • a private office for squad management;

  • filming and playback facilities;

  • a medical treatment room;

  • a doping control area;

  • a rest area.

Holcombe has a number of international hockey players who competed at the Athens 2004 Games.

Men’s first XI players Denzil Dolley, Eric Rose-Innes and Ryan Ravenscroft all represented South Africa in the men's hockey event.

Taryn Hosking, who plays for Holcombe's ladies’ first XI, also represented South Africa at Athens in 2004.

Club statement

“Over the past few years, Holcombe Hockey Club has implemented a development strategy which has seen the club evolve from its local roots into one of the largest hockey clubs in the country.

"This development has been driven with two fundamental goals in mind: firstly the development of an excellent infrastructure, including a club house and first class playing facilities and secondly, a significant investment in the coaching structure, enabling quality coaching resources to be deployed across the entire membership of the club.

“These development targets have been achieved ahead of schedule and the club has not just established itself as one of the biggest clubs in the country, it is also now competing at national level, with the men's first team reaching the English Hockey League Division 1.

“The past few years have seen Holcombe Hockey Club's profile rise within the hockey community so that it is now regarded as one of the country's elite hockey clubs.

“Holcombe Hockey Club is therefore extremely proud and excited to be in a position where it can offer its facilities to aspiring international athletes by acting as a training centre ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games and to be part of the Medway 2012 programme. This opportunity will certainly enable Holcombe's profile to continue to grow and further assist the planned continued development of the club over the coming seasons.”
