Shaunagh Brown is one of the country's leading female throwers, ranking in the top three nationally in both the discus and shot put.

She has no fewer than seven national titles and five regional and 13 county victories to her name and in 2007 broke into the international team.

Her first GB call-up was for the Loughborough home international in May 2007. She was also one of 14 girls to represent Team GB at the World Youth Games in Ostrava in July 2007, reaching the final in the discus.

She is now on the verge of being brought into the sport's World Class Talent Programme.

2007 was also a fantastic season for Shaunagh's club. Blackheath and Bromley Harriers were crowned National Junior League Champions and went on to finish fifth in the European Club Championships in the Czech Republic in September. Individually, Shaunagh won a bronze and silver in the national finals and came third in the European competition, having won at the same event in 2006.

Shaunagh, who moved to Gillingham from Peckham in South London in 2006, is a three-time English Schools champion. She also captained the London girls' team at the UK School Games in 2006, winning a gold medal along the way.

She was the schools international champion in 2005 and 2006 and came second at the Word Schools Games Cup in France in 2007.

Shaunagh started athletics at the age of 12, when she went to her local track for mini-marathon trials and was asked to join the club. She was a runner initially but quickly started training with the throwing coach and hasn't looked back since.

She is currently studying child care and education in the sixth form at Robert Napier School and in the future hopes to join the fire or police service.

She is also learning to drive to help her get to her training sessions at the club's track in London. Shaunagh can also be seen weight training at the Black Lion Leisure Centre in Gillingham, to which she and her coach John Hillier have free access as part of the Medway 2012 Elite Athlete Support Programme.

In the short-term, she is aiming to qualify for the World Junior Games. She also wants to do more shot put events, particularly through the indoor season. Her long-term ambition is to be a consistent 60m plus thrower.
