Medway Council’s Sports Development Team recognises the importance of sport and recreation to the residents of Medway and aims to encourage participation by all parts of the community.
Sport can pay huge dividends in terms of:
improved health,
social inclusion,
community safety,
realising everyone’s potential,
lifelong learning,
environmental sustainability,
regeneration.
The Medway Games have been introduced to offer as many people as possible the opportunity for active participation and to encourage all to adopt healthy lifestyles while enjoying getting involved in sport and active recreation, whether competitive, for enjoyment or for the social benefits it brings.
The games are organised by the Sports Development Team and the Medway 2012 Team in partnership with Greenacre School Sport Partnership and Howard School Sport Partnership and with the support of the governing bodies of sport, local sports clubs, local business and Medway leisure facilities.
Currently included in the Medway Games are:
Medway Mini Youth Games, an inter-school sports series for Medway primary school pupils;
Medway Youth Games, an inter-school sports series for Medway secondary school pupils;
Medway Disability Youth Games, an inter-school sports series for Medway special schools and special units;
Medway Business Games, an inter-business sports series for all Medway companies and employees.
