Volunteering
One of the biggest legacies of London 2012 will be in sports volunteering. Some 70,000 volunteers will be needed to deliver a successful Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. From spectator services such as ticket control and information points to medical and language services, volunteers will carry out essential tasks to ensure the Games run smoothly.

With competition for volunteering opportunities as fierce as the sporting competition itself, Medway Council hopes the volunteering spirit will spread wider than the 2012 Games themselves and that includes right here in Medway. Medway Council’s 2012 and Sports Development Teams have a programme of volunteer training and activities that you can get involved in right now. Volunteers are the lifeblood of our local sports clubs, and the Sports Development Team can help put you in touch with clubs seeking volunteer support. |

The Medway Games programme and events such as the annual Medway Mile also offer an opportunity to experience volunteering at an exciting local sporting event, while the Medway Park project to create a centre of sporting excellence at the existing Black Lion site in Gillingham means Medway will also be hosting major sporting events. These include the first ever world sporting event to come to Medway, the 2010 Modern Pentathlon World Cup. |
The sports development team also runs a series of volunteering training programmes for volunteers of all ages.
