By 2012, the government wants to see one million people taking part in regular physical activity.

Getting going If you're not sure where to start, visit Medway Gets Active (www.medwaygetsactive.co.uk). This is a one-stop shop for all activities in Medway, whether you're looking for running groups and routes, fitness classes, back-to-sport activities or somewhere to play tennis. Find a club If you've taken the first step and feel ready to join a sports club, there are more than 500 in Medway to choose from. From football, rugby, cricket and netball to scuba diving and sailing, there really is something for everyone. To find a club to join and browse the list of sports on offer, use our online club directory. Facilities There are many sports facilities in Medway, including those provided at Medway Council's leisure centres and open spaces. Visit www.medwaygetsactive.co.uk to find full facility and venue listings. Medway's new flagship centre is Medway Park (www.medwaypark.org.uk/). Community facilities available at the revamped Black Lion Leisure Centre include an eight-lane athletics track, 12-court sportshall, an improved swimming and diving pool, squash courts and a judo centre. Once completed, Medway Park will also have a gymnastics centre linked to the existing Jumpers Rebound Centre. |

Delivering sport in Medway
Medway Council's Sports Development Team runs a range of programmes and schemes that allow every member of the community to participate, volunteer and progress in sport.
These include:
the flagship Medway Games series;
a coach database, available at www.medwaysportscoaches.co.uk;
small grants and workshops for clubs and coaches;
volunteer and leadership programmes;
athlete support for Medway's top and aspiring sports performers.

School sport in Medway is managed by the Youth Sport Trust via two school sport partnerships. These are the Greenacre School Sport Partnership (www.greenacressp.co.uk) and the Howard School Sport Partnership (www.howardssp.org.uk).
