Athlete support
|
Medway Council has established a comprehensive programme of support to help Medway's most talented young sportsmen and women reach their potential. |
|
Building on the success of the Elite Athlete Support Programme (EASP), launched in 2007, a broader package of support is now available for all of Medway's young athletes who compete at county level and higher.
This support comes in the form of financial assistance, sports science, additional advice and expertise to help them reach the peak of their sport.
Athletes are placed in one of three categories, based on their sporting achievements and age:
Elite Athletes are those aged 16-30 years who represent Great Britain or who currently hold a top 10 national ranking.
Project 2016 athletes are aged 12-15 years and represent the county or the south-east or compete in national competitions within their discipline.
County and regional athletes also represent the county or the south-east or compete in national competition but are aged 16-24 years.
The pyramid below shows the sporting picture in Medway and outlines the support available to athletes at each level:

The three schemes form the new Athlete Support Programme, a pathway to excellence, supporting Medway's most promising individuals.
