Sara Parfett had a disappointing 2008 season after making waves in 2007. In undoubtedly her best season, she qualified for the 2007 National Championships and broke in to the top 10 national rankings in four events.
She carried this momentum in to 2008 breaking countless long-standing county records and qualifying for the senior nationals alongside Britiain's top swimmers on their way to the Beijing Games.
Unfortunately Sara's season was cut short when she was involved in a traffic accident and broke her arm. Her arm needed intricate surgery to re-align and pin it, and Sara was unable to swim at the junior or senior nationals. She made a minor comeback and swam at the UK School Games all be it with metal pins in her arm.
Sara is currently in rehab training ahead of the 2009 season.
2007 had been a promising year for the Medway swimmer. The Black Lion Swimming Club (www.blacklionsc.org.uk) captain qualified for the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) National Championships for the second consecutive year in four events.and represented the south-east schools in the English Schools Championships in Manchester, where she was part of the girls 200m medley team that won the bronze medal.
She also competed in the Ligue Européenne de Natation (LEN) junior international 3km open water swim held at the Royal Albert docks. This was a junior event held to coincide with the senior Marathon Swimming World Cup. She finished 12th in a strong international field, an excellent result in only her third open water race.
