Sara Parfett has had a frustrating 2009 season recovering from injury.
The Black Lion ace broke her arm in a road traffic accident in 2008, an injury which has required several operations to support it with pins and a lengthy rehabilitation programme.
The injury came as Sara was making waves. In undoubtedly her best season, she qualified for the 2007 National Championships and broke in to the top 10 national rankings in four events.
She represented the south-east schools in the English Schools Championships in Manchester, where she was part of the girls 200m medley team that won the bronze medal.
She carried this momentum in to 2008 breaking countless long-standing county records and qualifying for the senior nationals alongside Britiain's top swimmers on their way to the Beijing Games.
Unfortunately Sara's season was cut short by the traffic accident. Her arm needed intricate surgery to re-align and pin it, and Sara was unable to swim at the junior or senior nationals.
She made a minor comeback and swam at the UK School Games despite the metal pins in her arm.
With the pins removed Sara returned to competitive swimming in 2009, looking to regain her form of 2007/08.
She won county and regional medals on the way to the national championships and is looking like the swimmer she was two years ago.
Sara is in her final year of A-level studies and hopes to join the Bath or Loughborough swim squads when she moves on to university.
