About Medway images

Welcome to our local studies image database for Medway.

Our collection of visual images from the 19th century to the present day is a rich resource for local and family historians interested in the history, industry and culture of the Medway area.

Some of the photographs and prints in our collections derive from local government departments, but many others were donated to us, and their provenance is unknown.

There are approximately 100 illustrations included so far, mainly showing Chatham town centre and Chatham Dockyard, home of the Royal Navy until 1984. This is only a small selection of the photographs and prints held at MALSC. Visitors to the Studies Centre will be able to view images not included in the database. It is planned to add further views of Chatham, Rochester, Strood, Gillingham and the surrounding rural area.
