Top ways to get you going

When it comes to exercise, it’s up to you to get off the sofa and do some! Sounds easy, but we all know how comfy that sofa is. So, we’ve come up with a few ways to make sure you get the exercise you need.

No matter how you look at it, in order to keep fit you will have to introduce exercise into your life. The good news is that once you start exercising, your body will feel good. And, when exercise is part of your daily routine, you will find that instead of dreading it, you will look forward to it. In fact, your body will start craving it!

So, here’s how you can make exercise part of your life:

1. Plan ahead, write it down in your diary/calendar. If it’s in your mind, you’ll feel prepared for it. And by blocking out an hour you’ll see that it doesn’t mean your whole evening is taken up.

2.Go to the gym straight from school/college/work. If you go home first you’ll make excuses and find other things to do.

3. Find a friend or someone from your family that already takes part in an activity. Why not do some exercise together. You can help motivate each other.

4. Take up group classes. This will feel like more of a commitment and you will feel like you are letting people down if you don’t turn up. Guilt’s a great way to make yourself do something!

5. Try setting yourself fitness goals to keep you motivated

6. Make exercise part of your normal day. Walk to school/work if it’s close by. If not, why not get off the bus a couple of stops early and walk the rest of the way. Use the stairs instead of the lift.

7. Plan activities with your friends instead of meeting up for diner or a night out.

8. Focus on why it’s important to exercise and keep thinking of all the benefits you’ll gain.
