Non-specific urethritis (NSU)
What are the symptoms?
NSU refers to a group of bacteria or germs that show similar symptoms to chlamydia. Symptoms include:
pain when passing urine;
unusual discharge from the vagina (or urethra), penis or anus;
swelling or soreness around the male or female genital area or anus.
How could I get it?
By having unprotected sexual contact with the mouth, anus and genitals of an infected person.
Can it be treated?
NSU infections can be successfully treated with antibiotics. If left untreated, infections may cause problems with fertility and ectopic pregnancy, where the baby grows in the fallopian tube. Early treatment is very important to avoid these complications.
Can I prevent it?
Using a condom for penetrative and oral sex will greatly reduce the risk of transmission.
