Nintendo Wii – The best deal on the market?

AZAD SOUD

Remember Pong? Remember back in the day, when all you did in games was rotate a joystick and bat a white lump back and forth, but it was addictive as anything? Remember Donkey Kong? I’m sure you do. Those days are long gone. As every retro gamer knows, we are in the seventh generation of video-gaming, possibly the most innovative and creative (and most expensive) one to date. This generation of video gaming is defined by its playability, cost and level of technology. It is made-up of the three most powerful consoles – the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii. Which is the best? Which is the favourite for the title of console King? I believe Wii is.

Coming in on the price chart at £180 for the console, controllers and Wii Sports, (a full game containing a selection of sports such as boxing, tennis, baseball, bowling and golf), the Wii is an astoundingly good deal – but you won’t find them without some effort. Even at this late stage the Wii is in short supply and huge demand!

But what makes Nintendo’s giant so great? Strangely, this essential piece of kit weighs in as the smallest home console on the market to date, sized equivalently to three DVD cases stacked side by side and weighing, roughly, just over one kilogramme – meaning it can be easily lifted with just one hand! Wii also offers the best for your money, especially considering it’s the first ever proper virtual reality console. Yes, boys and girls, the Wii is the only console ever made that moves as you move and plays as you play. That means that anyone can pick up and play with minimal effort (although considering you’ll be moving around all the time, it will take a lot of energy). Players range from everywhere on the spectrum, including toddlers, OAPs, students and more!

The way this marvellous system works is that the player uses a special controller referred to as the Wii remote (Wiimote to all you cool cats) and a convenient item in your other hand named Nunchuk. Now, you may not be a ninja just by using it, but you can certainly play like one by swinging your arm, spinning your wrist, tilting your body and thrusting around like a lunatic as you fight your way (literally) through legions of enemies in games such as The Legend Of Zelda or Red Steel. Hammer the trigger button to fire in Call Of Duty and spin the remote to move in Sonic and experience the wild rages of gaming for the first time ever in the real world!

But watch out! For those times when you feel like your hands are slicked with oil and you’ve just reached that crucial point, don’t stop playing! No, with the handy wrist strap connected to your Wiimote, you can provide increased security and durability to your movement – however, that doesn’t mean you should loosen your grip too much, as that strap isn’t invincible (as a lot of players will tell you)!

With huge collections of games from Dragonball Z to Excite Truck, the amount and variety is phenomenal – combined with breathtaking, breakneck-speed graphics, Internet like never before.
