Free events for Medway’s young people

Dance, film, graffiti art and cookery are just some of the exciting events being organised by Medway Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Youth Forum.

The free events and workshops are designed to give young people an introduction to a range of activities.

Junk music workshop

Saturday, 18 July, from 12noon, at New Brompton College, Marlborough Road, Gillingham

Tins, plastic barrels, dustbins and much more make interesting alternatives to keyboards and guitars at this experimental music session.

This event recognises the achievements of young people within the areas of music, media, business, sports, community and many more. Young people to showcase talent at Rochester Castle Gardens

Don't forget that on Sunday, 19 July Rochester Castle Gardens will be hosting a concert by talented young performers in Medway. Singers and musicians will be able to perform on the stage used by the acts in this year's Castle Concerts in a showcase of young and upcoming talent in Medway. Find out more

The Central Theatre Open Day - Sunday, 26 July

This is your chance to see what life is like backstage and elsewhere in your local theatre. Regular free tours throughout the day will take you behind the scenes to areas that normally only the star names and stage managers get to see.

The theatre bar will be open all day with discounts on food and drinks. It's a tour not to be missed and there's no charge and no need to book - just turn up and join the next available tour. Visit www.medway.gov.uk/theatrebooking nearer the time, for more details.


LoopEd Youth Summer School Performance

Website to beat cyberbullying goes live

The charity Beatbullying has launched a peer mentoring website to help crack down on online bullying. The site (www.cybermentors.org.uk/) allows young people who have been bullied through digital channels, such as mobile phones and social networking sites, to seek advice from a pool of 700 young CyberMentors. The mentors, who are 600 secondary school pupils and 100 young people in further education, have gone through a five-stage training programme.


Do you want to be a star?

Live and Unsigned is a national music competition for unsigned bands, vocal groups and solo artists. Judges are looking for "musical ability, originality and performance capability".

Charlton Athletic community scheme solutions offers football coaching, and fitness-based games and matches for 10 to 19-year-olds. Just turn up on the day with kit. Eight-year-olds and younger must be accompanied by adult.

Sessions will resume after the May half term break on 1 June.
