Safer Summer campaign
Enjoy time out with your friends but stay in control is the message from Kent police.
Research shows that at this time of year there is more anti-social behaviour and an increase in violent incidents, especially in areas with a lot of night-life.
One of the aims of Kent Police’s Safer Summer campaign is to reduce these kinds of incidents by promoting safe socialising and reminding people, particularly those who are over 18 and enjoy a busy social life, to stay in control.
The advice is:
Enjoy yourself but don't drink to excess.
Watch out for your friends and make sure that they watch out for you too – intervene and steer them away if they seem to be drinking too much or appear to be getting out of control.
If you end up in a situation which becomes aggressive, walk away.
Always keep an eye on your drink – don’t leave it unattended.
Plan how you intend to get home beforehand – book a taxi or have a designated driver in your group.
If you are going to walk home, do so in groups and stick to well lit areas.
Kent’s night-life and social scene is safe and police work closely with restaurants, bars and clubs across the county to ensure people can go out and enjoy themselves without experiencing problems.
Remember, it's illegal to drink alcohol if you're under 18-years-old.
Idol 2008 is coming to Medway and for the first time it is open to dancers as well as singers.
Idol 2008 is the music and dance competition for singers, vocal groups and now for dancers and dance groups to enter. 2007 was the competition's third year, with over 10,000 applicants entering. This makes the competition the largest talent contest outside a certain ITV show and with Idol’s new dance category, this year’s contest is set to be even bigger!
The competition will offer singers and dancers the opportunity to perform live in front of large audiences as well as the chance to win up to £25,000 in prizes if crowned the UK’s 2008 Idol. This competition is the ultimate search for the cream of the UK’s talent and with over 7,000 dancers and singers already registered nationally; this year’s standard is expected to be the highest to date. Idol 2008 auditions are kicking off in August. The competition has two age categories; under 18 and 18+. Successful auditionees will qualify to appear in a regional live show. Thereafter, the best acts will then qualify for the National Grand Final to compete to be the UK’S ultimate.
The competition poses fantastic opportunities to not only develop performance skills and personal ability, but to expose your talent. The latter stages of the competition provide you with the opportunity to impress the judges and many guests from record labels, agencies and the entertainment industry.
Additionally, the vocal winners will receive a range of prizes. The prize for the winning act is a recording contract to release their single. The dance winners will go on a UK tour and appear in the video for the vocal winner’s single.
With the competition offering a multitude of prospects and prizes for undiscovered talent, this is one opportunity not to be missed for singers and dancers alike.
