Parking Permits Update:

Permit exchanges only can be dealt with at: Travel Information Centre, Waterfront Way, Chatham.

Parking vouchers can be purchased at all Medway Community Hubs.

Online Permits

The launch of the online parking permit system has been delayed while we continue to speak with permit users and seek feedback from the community. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. More information can be found here.

Pay and display parking charges will increase in Medway from 3 April 2017. Find out what the new charges are.

From February 5 - Luton Road/A2 Chatham Hill roadworks - delays to bus services

From 5 February for a period of up to 18 months major gas main replacement is being undertaken at the junction of A2 Chatham Hill, and Luton Road. Roadworks will then progress down Luton Road to Luton High Street in stages over the coming months. The works which are required to be undertaken by Southern Gas Networks by the Health and Safety Executive due ageing gas mains.

There will be traffic controlled signals which will monitored by the roadworks contractors every day from 0700 to 2100, but delays are expected on a number of services for the duration. Please allow extra time for your journey where possible.

Delays are expected on the following services:-

Chatham Hill Services 

  • 120 Chatham – Rainham – Otterham Park
  • 132 Chatham – Rainham – Hempstead Valley
  • 176 Walderslade – Weeds Wood – Maidstone Road – Chatham – Gillingham – Grange Road – Hazlemere Drive
  • 177 Walderslade – Weeds Wood – Luton – Chatham – Gillingham – Grange Road – Hazlemere Drive

Luton Road Services 

  • 113 Chatham – Hempstead Valley – Wigmore
  • 164 Chatham – White Road Estate
  • 166 Chatham – Lords Wood 169 Chatham – Princes Park – Walderslade
  • 177 Walderslade – Weeds Wood – Luton – Chatham – Gillingham – Grange Road – Hazlemere Drive
  • 179 Chatham – Churchill Avenue – Walderslade

12-16 February 185 on diversion due to Ordnance Street/Railway Street Closure

From Monday 12 February until Friday 16 February due to re- construction, resurfacing and lighting works taking place in Ordnance Street at the from the junction with Railway Street will be road closures from 7am to 7pm each day.

185 services will not serve Ordnance Street, Grosvenor Road, and Old Pattens Lane. Buses will divert via A2 New Road, and City Way. The bus stops in Ordnance Street, Grosvenor Road, and Old Pattens Lane will not be served during the works.

Please proceed to bus stops in City Way, or at Chatham Railway Station during the works. Medway Council apologises for any inconvenience this may cause while these essential works take place.

Service 185- Changes from 22 January 2018

From 22 January 2018 there will be some changes to the 185 daytime service on Monday to Fridays.

This is due to Nu-Venture informing Medway Council that they cannot offer the service on a commercial basis in the current climate.

Medway Council is therefore supporting a daytime service going forward with some timing changes. Nu-Venture will be operating the service.

New Mondays to Fridays Bus 185 times towards Chatham

  • The 0900 journey on Mondays to Fridays from Davis Estate will now start from Maidstone Road by Toys ’R’ Us at 0912 and will operate via Wilson Ave/Pattens Lane to Chatham.
  • The journeys timed to leave Davis Estate Vale Drive for Chatham at 0701/0808/1021/1121/1221/1321 are unchanged.
  • The 1402 bus from Davis Estate will no longer run to Chatham.

All other journeys unchanged Monday to Friday, and Saturday journeys unchanged.

Timetable cases will be updated in the week before the 22 January, and bus timetables will be available at the usual outlets.

Dementia Awareness

In 2015, Medway Council, the Medway Clinical Commissioning Group, and Alzheimer's Society  launched the Medway Dementia Action Alliance (DAA) - a new initiative to get local business pledging toDementia Friends logo make their services more dementia friendly.

As part of this initiative, all Medway Council staff have been on a Dementia Awareness course, including all bus station staff. We have also worked with bus companies to promote and assist in a better understanding of dementia. Arriva have themselves been involved in Dementia Roadshows and are giving training to drivers as part of their continuing development.

Bank holidays

Chatham Waterfront Bus Station is open whenever buses are running, but some routes will have a more limited service on bank holidays (GOV.UK). Contact the bus operator in the first instance.
