Buses to Chatham Maritime

Several bus companies operate services to Chatham Maritime, providing access to:

116 bus at university

All services travelling to Chatham Maritime depart from Platform B11 at Chatham Waterfront bus station.

Christmas and New Year Bus Information

  • The 100 service runs approximately hourly during the day from Monday to Friday from St Mary's Island to Chatham rail station. There are extra services during morning and evening peaks.
  • The 116 service offers a 30-minute frequency on the route to and from Chatham Maritime, and goes via Mid Kent College, and through the University campus. The route continues through Gillingham, Twydall, Rainham, Wigmore/Parkwood, and Hempstead Valley. Early morning and late afternoon 116 run to Hempstead Post Office. Two journeys a day go to Darland.
  • The 151 service runs in the evening from St Mary's Island to Chatham town centre, through to Rochester, Strood, Medway Valley Park, Cuxton, and Halling, and on Sundays.
  • The 190/191 services offer a 10-minute frequency on the route to and from Chatham Maritime to Chatham Waterfront Bus Station, and Chatham Rail Station. 191 journeys (every 20 mins from approx 8.30 to 6pm) Monday to Friday extend to The Strand, and Liberty Quays. The route continues through Chatham town centre to Rochester and Strood. The 190 extends through to Gravesend, and the 191 to the Hoo Peninsula and Grain. On Sundays the 190 extends to Riverside Country Park during the day. During term time the 191 will run through the University Campus Monday to Friday and term time Saturdays.

Discounts for Universities at Medway students and staff

Students and staff at the Universities at Medway can buy season tickets for bus travel in Arriva'sUniversities at Medway logo South East zone. Students can get unlimited travel in the South East for just £25 for four weeks, £65 for ten weeks, and £140 for an academic year. A 10 journey ticket is available for £10.

Tickets are available ONLY to students and staff attending the Medway Campuses of the University of Greenwich, University of Kent, and Canterbury Christ Church University. The ticket must be purchased online and with the promotional code available from UMSA at Universities at Medway.

ASD Coaches

The 170 service runs hourly on the route to and from Chatham Maritime Monday to Saturday. The route continues to Medway Gate via Medway City Estate.


  • The 175 service offers an hourly service Monday to Friday on the route to and from Chatham Maritime. The route continues to Strood via Medway City Estate.

The Connected Kent and Medway Smartcard is a new way to pay for travel on buses instead of cash. It can be used on the following operators only:-
