Academies, foundation and voluntary aided schools

The admission arrangements for some of the academies, foundation and voluntary aided schools have changed from last year and they are therefore consulting on their new arrangements. Details of the dates of consultation for each primary and secondary school and who to send consultation responses to are available on this website.

Academies, foundation and voluntary aided schools that have not changed their arrangements from 2010 are also listed for information.

Parents or guardians often face a difficult decision when choosing a school for their child. They need to consider a number of factors, including how close the school is to home, its location, the size or the values and beliefs of the school.

Parents or guardians can visit schools by contacting them for an appointment and get further information from the school to help with this decision, for example:

  • the school prospectus, which will have detailed information on the school and its performance;
  • the school website, which will give a variety of information on the school;
  • school performance information, which is available within the achievement and attainment compiled by the council.

Schools are inspected regularly by school inspectors from the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted). Details of the most recent inspection for the school can be obtained from the school or by using the Ofsted website (www.ofsted.gov.uk).
