The Open Register

When a person registers to vote and is put on the electoral register, they are also automatically put on the open register.

The open register can be bought by any person, company or organisation. For example, it is used by businesses to find contacts to sell their services to and charities to confirm name and address details.

You can ask to be removed from the open register, but you will remain on the electoral register and your right to vote will stay the same. If you opt out of the open register, you can opt back in again at any time.

Opt out of the open register

If you would like to opt out of the open register, so that your personal details are no longer included, you must send a written letter to:

The Electoral Services team at Medway Council, Gun Wharf, Dock Road, Chatham, ME4 4TR

You cannot do this on behalf of another person. Each individual who is registered to vote at a property must sign and send their own letter if they want to do this.
