Getting to Medway and finding your way around...
By road
From the north, south and west, Medway can be reached by motorway. From the M25, take the A2/M2 eastbound. Junctions 1 to 4 of the M2 take you into Medway:
  • Junction 1 - Strood, Rochester or Gillingham (via the Medway Tunnel),
  • Junction 2 - Strood and Rochester,
  • Junction 3 - Chatham,
  • Junction 4 - Gillingham.
You can also come via the M25/M26 and M20, leaving at Junction 4 and taking the A228 to Rochester or Junction 6, taking the A229 to Chatham or Rochester.
From the east, the Channel ports or the Channel tunnel, take the M20 and leave at Junction 6, taking the A229 to Chatham or Rochester. Alternatively, you can use the A2/M2 as above.
By rail
From London by rail
If you arrive by train and use local buses to get around, the area is well served by public transport.
Medway has five main railway stations: Strood, Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham and Rainham. All have frequent services from London Victoria, Cannon Street and Charing Cross stations and the journey takes between 45 minutes and one hour. From the south and east there are regular trains to Medway from Maidstone, Dover, Canterbury and Thanet.
By bus or coach
By air
Medway is within easy travelling distance of Heathrow (75 miles), Gatwick (43 miles) and London City Airport (24 miles).
By sea or Eurotunnel
If you are arriving in Folkestone or Dover, take the M20 and leave at Junction 6 taking the A229 to Chatham or Rochester. Alternatively, you can use the A2/M2 as above.
