Keep clear markings

Medway Council has the power to deal with unnecessary obstructions but responding to this type of complaint is sometimes a low priority when compared to other demands on the council’s services.

The white bar keep clear marking is only placed on sites with a dropped kerb as a deterrent where there is a persistent problem.

It is a parking contravention to block or park across or next to a dropped kerb. This can be enforced by Medway’s Civil Enforcement Officers. Find out more about double parking and parking at dropped footways (pdf 23KB). To use this file you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have this on your computer, please use our advice page.

Anyone who applies for the white bar marking is required to provide evidence of dates, times and the registration numbers of obstructing vehicles over at least a three-month period. You can print and complete the table below.

The council can then assess the level of the problem and respond accordingly. Should it appear that your request is justified, there will be a charge of £30 to cover the cost of the marking and any future maintenance that may be required.

To apply for keep clear markings, please complete and return the application form (pdf 20KB).
