Conditions of use for the bus pass

  • The pass can only be used on local bus services throughout England.
  • Journeys cannot start before 9.30am or after 11pm on weekdays unless it is a public holiday or the bus pass allows it. However, Medway residents may travel from 9am for journeys which start in the Medway Council area.

  • Medway Council and the other councils that run the free bus pass travel scheme cannot guarantee the availability of any bus service.
  • The pass must be shown to the bus driver. On some services you may be asked to present your pass to a machine so that it can be read electronically.
  • The bus driver, ticket inspector or council representative can ask about a passenger's circumstances and the journey being made to ensure they should have a pass.
  • Passengers must follow the bus operator's rules when travelling using a bus pass. These are explained in their conditions of carriage and passenger regulations.

  • Bus passes must not be used by anyone other than the pass holder.
  • The pass is not valid if it is damaged or defaced.
  • The pass belongs to Medway Council and must be given to the council or its representative if this is requested.
  • Medway Council, the other councils that run the bus pass travel scheme and anyone who helps them to run the scheme, are not responsible for any losses or damage suffered when travelling using the pass.
