Road safety

Medway Council has a team of road safety experts working year-round, to keep road users as safe and informed as possible while travelling on Medway's roads. Photo of a school crossing patrol person by the roadside

Through continual network monitoring, road crash data collection, working with schools to deliver educational programs, various publicity, events and engineering schemes - the Road Safety Team are on hand to provide information, advice and identify areas for improvement.

The team can loosely be divided into two, depending on which area of expertise you wish to explore:

  • Road Safety Engineers monitor, maintain and increase Medway's road safety by altering the road environment with hard measures such as signing, visibility improvements, pedestrian facilities and traffic calming.
  • The Safer Journeys Team deals with the educational, training and publicity aspects of road safety - aiming to improve awareness and knowledge of specific road safety issues.
