Adult Social Care - Fair & Affordable Cost of Care Policy 2016

With people living longer and the introduction of the Care Act, more and more people are going to need care and support from us in the future. To make sure people in Medway can receive good quality care that represents the best value for money for taxpayers, we are proposing some changes to the way we work.

We are consulting on proposals to introduce a maximum amount of money we would ordinarily pay for care and support in the community, to bring it in line with the amount we would pay for care in a residential setting.

We are holding a public consultation so that you can give us your views before we consider making any changes. We are keen to hear your views and will use your responses to help us to decide if the proposals go ahead. The closing date for returned surveys is Sunday, 7 May 2016

Q1 Do you understand why we are proposing a maximum amount we would pay for adult social care and support received in the community (for example:homecare, day care etc)?
Q2 We are proposing to pay up to the amounts listed below for care and support in the community (i.e. homecare, daycare, etc). Please say how much you either agree or disagree with this suggestion:
Strongly agree   Agree   Neither agree nor disagree   Disagree   Strongly disagree
Older people – the maximum we will pay is £395 per week

Adults with a mental health diagnosis – the maximum we will pay is £485 per week

Adults with a disability – the maximum we will pay is £570 per week
Q3
Q4 We are proposing that if someone wanted a particular type of care that cost more than the care and support package recommended by adult social care, then they (the person needing the support) should pay the additional cost. (For example: adult social care has suggested care and support that costs £395 per week. However the person wanting the care wants to choose someone else to provide their care, that costs £500 per week - this means they would need to pay the extra £105 per week.) How much do you either agree or disagree with this suggestion?
Q5
Q6 If the proposals are agreed, do you think those currently receiving support that costs more than our maximum amount (and do not want to change to a more cost effective provider) should pay the additional cost?
