Cozenton Park and nursery improvements

Cozenton Park is a large public open space in Rainham.

The park is a short distance from the A2 and has various public transport links nearby.

The site has a newly built leisure centre (Cozenton Park Leisure Centre) next to it that opened in Summer 2024.

Facilities in the open space include:

Skate park proposals

At the end of 2025, we appointed a specialist skate designer and contractor for the skate park. We held 2 design workshops in early 2026 and invited you to share your ideas to help shape the proposed plans.

What we're proposing

The proposals include:

  • repairing and refurbishing the existing skate park
  • adding a new extension to the skate park.

The extension will be a street-style skate area, designed to complement the current skate park. It will be located where an existing picnic table is currently located.

How the skate park will be funded

The project is being funded by Section 106.

Have your say

We’re asking for yours views on the proposals.

The survey is open from Monday 8 June to Monday 6 July 2026.

Community tree nursery and garden

The community tree nursery is a place where people can come together to plant and care for seedlings until they become young trees.

When the trees are ready, they may be planted or passed onto others in the community to plant.

The newly grown trees can be used to create woodlands, hedgerows, orchards, or single trees.

The community garden is also a space that can benefit your health and provide educational value.

Improvements made so far

We submitted a planning application for the community tree nursery, garden, and allotment plots in 2024.

Planning permission was granted in 2025. We cleared the nursery site in March 2025 to avoid bird nesting season.

Other improvements include:

  • installing guttering and tanks to the buildings to harvest rainwater
  • repairing and recovering the polytunnels
  • new accessible raised planting beds
  • storage containers
  • planting a new native hedge around the park boundary of the nursery site with volunteers
  • setting up the Friends of Cozenton Park Community Tree Nursery
  • volunteers growing trees from seed
  • new access points into the nursery site
  • engaging the user group about improvements to the skatepark.

Residents who gave their email address will be updated about the project.

Past consultation

We have received developer contributions (known as Section 106) from the local area, along with external funding for the old nursery site. This funding will be used to improve Cozenton Park and the nursery.

We've consulted on views on Cozenton Park and the nursery. The consultation has now closed.

The improvements suggested include:

  • changing the old nursery site into a community tree nursery and garden, along with allotments
  • improving the skatepark
  • improving the play area
  • improving some of the entrances
  • new outdoor gym and fitness equipment.
