Activities and clubs

There are libraries across Medway. You can borrow books and join book clubs to meet people who like the same genres as you. There are also special groups for visually impaired readers who listen to audio books.

The Medway Little Theatre consists of 2 groups:

  • children’s workshop (age 7 to 12)
  • youth company (age 12 to18)

They deliver workshops on different aspects of the theatre from acting, performing arts, improvisation, devising, text work, theatre styles, film, stage combat, mime and more.

They also encourage members to learn the basics of stage management, lighting and sound design.

For the children’s workshop, they explore self-confidence, vocal, literacy, team and problem solving skills.

Razzamataz is a theatre school company who cover all aspects of the performing arts, including musical theatre, song and dance, pop singing, street dance, drama and improvisation and physical theatre.

Razzamataz is a fun way of making new friends, learn new skills, increase health and fitness and offers the opportunity to perform in their annual Summer Showcases and other local and national events.

They also offer specialist workshops with industry professionals including stars of the West End and TV!

Theatre for young people, by young people

Theatre31 is an exciting new programme, inspiring young people to be involved in theatre and putting them directly in the driving seat. Taking place across Medway and Sheppey, this youth led programme supports young people make decisions and call the shots on everything that happens – from deciding which artists to work with to designing the logo.

All the activities are free and there are many opportunities for young people to get involved!

Theatre31 is managed by Icon Theatre, based at the Brook Theatre in Chatham, who have been co-creating original performances with communities and young people since 2002.

Funded by Arts Council England, Theatre31 is a project supported by Medway Council.

Theatre31 is an arts programme with no walls, which means all activities can be flexibly and quickly adapted to enable safe and creative delivery in a COVID world.

The YLF Legends Programme provides a fun, supportive and safe setting for young people already under the care of Medway Council to engage in new, exciting opportunities and experiences. The programmes are made up of half-term activities, overnight experiences, day trips and educational opportunities.

It is important to note that you have to be under the care of Medway Council to be eligible to take part.

The Kent Phoenix American Football Club has 4 age categories: under 11, 14, 17 and 19.

The club is open to boys and girls of all abilities. Young people will have the opportunity to learn the skills and abilities needed to play American football and have the opportunity to excel regionally and nationally.

Medway Netball Junior League provides a friendly and safe place to have fun and play netball.

They have links with Emeralds Netball Club who provide coaching for the younger players and can lead young people to joining teams in the Junior League.
