Medway Council Gypsy, Traveller and travelling showpeople Call for Sites 2020

The new Medway Local Plan will include provision for the development needs for housing for different sectors of the community. This includes planning for the accommodation needs of Gypsies, Travellers and travelling showpeople. National planning policy requires local authorities to plan for and meet evidenced pitch targets for Gypsies and Travellers and plot targets for travelling showpeople to address the likely permanent and transit site accommodation needs of their area over the Plan period.

Medway Council is undertaking a focused Call for Sites exercise for Gypsy, Traveller and travelling showpeople sites. The results of the exercise will be used as part of the evidence base for the new Local Plan.

This Call for Sites exercise will run from 10 January 2020 to 5pm on 21 February 2020.

The exercise is to determine if there are any potential sites for Gypsy, Traveller or travelling showpeople in Medway that people would like to promote to the Council. By promoting sites to the Council it does not mean they will gain planning permission or become allocations in the new Local Plan. Any proposed sites will need to be tested first through the Local Plan process, against a range of criteria. The purpose of this Call for Sites is to understand if and where there is land available.

To promote a site for future Gypsy, Traveller and travelling showpeople complete the pro-forma. If you are promoting more than one site use a separate form each time.

If you would like to discuss this further, you can contact the Planning Policy Team on 01634 331 629 or by emailing planning.policy@medway.gov.uk.
