Help with your social care direct payments

To help with your direct payments, you'll be given a Self-Directed Support Coordinator. What they'll do is:

  • discuss the direct payment scheme and provide information
  • help you to identify areas that you need more support in
  • help with advertising, interviews and recruitment process
  • support with budgeting, Pay As You Earn (PAYE) and National Insurance Contribution (NIC)
  • support with monitoring requirements
  • provide you with a list of care agencies for you to choose from
  • contact you to check that the direct payment is working well and if not, discuss how things could be done in a better way.

Support after your direct payment is set up

After the direct payment is set up the Self-Directed Support Coordinator will arrange for regular reviews and check with you. They'll find out whether:

  • the plan is working and achieving the outcomes agreed on
  • you feel in control of your direct payment and have the flexibility to meet your needs
  • you're happy with the way you're being supported
  • you feel safe with the support and care you receive.

They'll also review the balance on the account and make sure that your direct payment amount still meets your agreed outcomes.

At any point you can choose to arrange your care and support by having a mix of direct payment and Medway Council arranged care services.

You can also choose to stop receiving direct payment and ask us to arrange any care and support that you need.
