Report a problem with dogs

You can buy dog bags at contact points, libraries and community hubs. Each pack contains 50 dog bags and cost £1.65.

If you have been or are afraid of being bitten by a dog, or suspect a dog has been stolen, phone the police on 101.

If you suspect a dog is being mistreated phone the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.

The law states that all dogs must wear a collar and tag with the owner's name and address (including dogs fitted with microchips).

Dogs barking

If a neighbour's dog keeps barking, it can cause distress. The first step is to discuss it with your neighbour. We have a detailed advice page for dog owners on what to do if a dog keeps barking.

If the barking goes on for a long time and your neighbour is unable to resolve the issue, the council may have to become involved.

Yellow Dog UK Campaign

Yellow Dog UK Campaign has been set up to focus on dogs that could be in training, recovering from an operation, being rehabilitated, unwell, nervous or grumpy.

If you are walking your dog and see another dog wearing a yellow bandana around its neck or a yellow ribbon on its lead, the message is clear: the dog needs space, as it currently falls within one of the above descriptions. Free ribbons or bandanas are available from the Yellow Dog UK Campaign website.
