In the weeks following a death

Once you’ve registered the death, you need to tell various organisations about the death.

Government services that need to be told include:

  • HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)
  • Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)
  • Passport Office
  • Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA)
  • Veterans UK (to cancel Armed Forces Compensation Scheme payments).

Our services will also need to be told. This includes:

  • Council Tax and Housing Benefit
  • Children’s Services
  • Adult Social Care
  • Council Housing
  • Macmillan Welfare Benefits Service
  • Blue Badge Scheme
  • concessionary travel
  • electoral services
  • assisted refuse collections
  • libraries and leisure centres

The Tell Us Once service can help you report the death to a range of local and central government organisations in one go.
