Junior road safety officers

Hundreds of schools across the country are involved in the Junior Road Safety Officer (JRSO) scheme. It encourages pupils to take an active role in road safety education and the chance to get serious messages across in a fun way.

There are typically two or three pupils in each primary school who have been elected to promote road safety in their school. Usually they are from Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6).

Junior road safety officers carry out road safety education in a variety of exciting and challenging ways, including:

  • giving talks
  • running competitions
  • putting up posters
  • talking to peers
  • using as many other fun ideas as they can
